From highly respected brands to craft items all can be found on the streets in major town and city centres in the Algarve, many of them closed off to traffic.  

Rua Direita in Portimão winds its way around the river area, inviting visitors for a stroll.  Here, you can find small craft shops next to internationally renowned stores. 

In Lagos, a city that has had a cosmopolitan population for centuries, there are particularly attractive and up-market ceramic shops, exhibiting unique pieces.

Rua de Santo Antonio in Faro is a true open air shopping centre with traditional architecture.  With busy esplanades, the street boasts of shops for all tastes, with traditional business still maintaining its prowess.

In Vila Real de Santo António, a Pombaline construction encloses an open air shopping centre, with shops exhibiting their goods in thoroughfares, a Mediterranean custom teeming with colour and life. 

On Rua do Comércio in Olhão, there is a stream of small shops, many of them with tables at the entrance.  On the bank at the mouth of the estuary, you can buy raw and ready-cooked shellfish.

Situated in the heart of the Algarve, Loulé is also an important commercial centre which has kept its service personal.  Next to the castle walls, you can get copper, leatherwork, and objects made from palm leaves in artisanal workshops.
